1. Win the first three seconds
The opening decides almost everything. Viewers make a keep-or-skip call almost immediately, so the first line has to promise something specific.
- Start mid-action. Skip “Hi friends, welcome back.” Open on the most interesting moment.
- Say the payoff first. “Indha oru setting maathunaa, battery double aagum” beats a slow introduction.
- Put the hook on screen too. A short text line at the top reinforces what you are saying for anyone watching on mute.
2. Caption everything
Captions are not just for accessibility. They give the eye something to follow and make muted viewers stay. For Tamil content, they also make your Reel watchable for people who understand spoken Tamil but read faster.
- Three to five words per line, no more than two lines.
- Bold, high-contrast text with an outline or shadow.
- Keep captions in the middle band, clear of the username and buttons at the bottom.
- Highlight one key word per line in a second colour.
- Pick Tamil script or Thanglish based on your audience, and stay consistent.
Typing all of that by hand is slow. An AI tool that understands Tamil can do the transcription and timing for you; see how to add Tamil subtitles to Reels for the full walkthrough.
3. Cut the dead air
Short pauses between sentences feel natural while recording and painfully slow on a phone. Removing them, plus filler sounds like “umm” and “aaa”, can shorten a Reel noticeably without losing anything you said. Shorter Reels with the same content usually get watched to the end more often.
Retakes matter too. If you said a line three times to get it right, keep only the best take. ceyonai can detect silences, fillers and repeated takes automatically and show you each cut before applying it.

A talking-head Reel with no movement gets visually stale after a few seconds. Small punch-in zooms on key lines reset attention without needing extra footage. Use them on the punchline, the number, or the moment you want people to remember, not on every sentence.
5. Export settings that keep quality
| Setting | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Aspect ratio | 9:16 | Fills the phone screen with no bars or cropping. |
| Resolution | 1080 × 1920 | Matches what Reels and Shorts display, so text stays sharp. |
| Frame rate | Same as you recorded (usually 30) | Changing it can make motion look choppy. |
| Captions | Burned in | Look the same on every phone; Tamil characters always render. |
| Audio | Voice clear above music | Background music should never compete with your words. |

- No silent gaps longer than a breath.
- Captions are clear of Instagram's interface.
- You watched it once on mute and could still follow it.
